PAPER JAM

PAPER JAM I am a printer by trade. I’ve been running presses, folders, copiers, etc.... for over twenty-five years. So, I know a little about paper-handling and getting paper to go through machinery. A few months back, I was working on a job that had to be delivered “yesterday.” Naturally, I had a major paper jam and another jam right after that. So, I checked all the rollers, sensors, and paper trail for any broken parts but everything looked fine. After that, it would run for 50 or so sheets and jam again. I pulled jammed sheets 5 or 6 more times. I was under-the-gun; and after about 5 or 6 jams, I was getting very angry. I was thinking, “Why God? You know I have to get this done!” Something was wrong! It was then that I pulled the transfer section out as far as it would go and got down on me knees and laid-out flat on the floor to see if I could find the problem. As I looked closely I discovered the corner of a piece of paper, less than a half inch across, that had been torn-off and was stuck in a place that would have been impossible to see if I had not gone to my knees. As I laid on the floor God spoke to my heart and said, “That little piece of paper is the sin in your heart that you have over-looked because you haven’t taken the time to get on your knees before Me and have Me test your ways.” We have to be very careful not to let the little things come between us and God. In AA, they have a saying “It’s not the alligators that get you, it’s the mosquitos and fleas.” The Bible tells us to “Examine our ways and return to the Lord.” You don’t have to be a murderer, drug addict, or adulterer to be out of God’s will. If you think about it, the very first account of wrong doing in the Bible was the horrific crime of eating a piece of fruit -- and God was not at all happy about it. If we are honest, most of us have done much worse. To me, that puts it in perspective. You don’t have to spend four hours a day on the Internet looking at porn; five minutes is basically the same. You don’t have to have an adulterous relationship; lusting after someone will do. Murderer? Just hate one of your brothers or sisters. The Bible says we “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” The Bible also tells us that there is a way that seems right to man, but it ends in death. Our Pastor likes to say, “You are either a sinner or a sinner saved by grace.” (A Saint or an ain’t!) I like that. The Bible says that grace from God is a free gift to those who believe. The problem is we tend to think of free things as being cheap. Since it cost Jesus His life, I would caution anyone who believes God’s grace is cheap. The Bible cautions us about taking God for granted. Jesus said in the 7th chapter of Matthew, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” He then went on to say that on the last day people will say, “Didn’t I do great things in Your Name.” And Jesus said He will say “Depart from Me... I never knew you.” Like I said, I’ve been printing for many years. I know a lot about what I do. However, that doesn’t change the fact that sometimes, in my rush to get through life, I miss little details that prevent me from being the printer (person) God would have me be. Unfortunately, sometimes lack of honesty with our self keeps us from truly knowing God at all. I would encourage everyone to consider whether they are truly walking with the Lord. And know that if you have a heavy burden on your heart Jesus wants to take that from you. Walking with the Lord doesn’t mean you won’t have any more paper jams. As a mater-of-fact, you’ll probably have some at the most inopportune times, but it’s nothing getting on your knees won’t fix.
